Grain refinement of Mg-alloys by native MgO particles: An overview

نویسندگان

چکیده

A fine and equiaxed solidification process delivers multidimensional benefits to Mg-alloys, such as improved castability, reduced casting defects, enhanced mechanical properties, increased corrosion resistance potential for recycled contents. Despite extensive research on grain refinement of Mg-alloys in the last few decades, currently, there is no effective refiner available refining Mg-Al alloys, our current understanding mechanisms not adequate facilitate development refiners. Under EPSRC (UK) LiME Hub's program, substantial advances have been made early stages covering prenucleation, heterogeneous nucleation, initiation refinement. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive overview by native MgO particles. We show that particles can be intensive melt shearing regardless alloy compositions. More importantly, demonstrate (1) addition more potent exogenous will than MgO; (2) are difficult impotent through promoting explosive initiation. suggest most approach make dispersion, shearing.

Magnificent Grain Refinement of Al-Mg2Si Composite by Hot Rolling

The effect of chemical composition and the hot rolling operations on the microstructure and mechanical properties of in situ aluminum matrix composite with Mg2Si phase as the reinforcement was studied. It was revealed that the modification by phosphorous results in the rounder (more spherical) primary and secondary (eutectic) magnesium silicide intermetallics. During hot rolling, the primary pa...

Grain Refinement Efficiency in Commercial-Purity Aluminum Influenced by the Addition of Al-4Ti Master Alloys with Varying TiAl3 Particles

A series of Al-4Ti master alloys with various TiAl₃ particles were prepared via pouring the pure aluminum added with K₂TiF₆ or sponge titanium into three different molds made of graphite, copper, and sand. The microstructure and morphology of TiAl₃ particles were characterized and analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The microstructure of TiA...

Refinement: An overview

The purpose of this initial chapter is to introduce concepts and techniques assumed as general background in the remaining chapters of this book. The relevant notions are introduced using a simple and well-known programming notation: Dijkstra’s language of guarded commands [81], presented in Section 1. Three classical approaches to assigning semantic meaning to programs are then explored. In Se...

Quasicrystal-reinforced Mg alloys

The formation of the icosahedral phase (I-phase) as a secondary solidification phase in Mg-Zn-Y and Mg-Zn-Al base systems provides useful advantages in designing high performance wrought magnesium alloys. The strengthening in two-phase composites (I-phase + α-Mg) can be explained by dispersion hardening due to the presence of I-phase particles and by the strong bonding property at the I-phase/m...
